I don’t care if this thing causes me to actually lose a few ponies. The sounds it makes are worth it.

Hey at least you’re likely getting more MPGs with that hot air intake.

I replaced my stock filters with AFE dry filters earlier this year, left the airbox untouched but the induction sound is still pretty good.

I went into it knowing that there were no performance gains to be had (and almost certainly some losses in the summer) but I just wanted the sound.

It’s heavenly above 2,000 RPM.

I agree. Throttle response even if it’s only perceived is more important than 5hp

Whether gained or lost, you won’t notice 2 -5 hp, but the awesome added induction sound is undeniable!

What if I told you that with proper engineering (read: lots of experimenting with boxes and tubes) you could have the same sound without  ruining your performance?

I’m cool with this. Don’t have time to d ink around with experiments and I’m ok with giving up a little lower when it’s hot.

My Focus had a factory “lifetime” air filter. Yeah, right. After 170K miles, it was time for a change. One quick and cheap air filter swap, very similar to what you did, and the induction noise is very satisfying. And, I gained a decent 5mpg after the change. I’m hoping the $$ saved will pay for the wheel bearing I just blew out yesterday. It was horrifying.

Very likely it actually gives you a slight bump. Possibly not peak HP, but generally throughout the rpm range they net decent gains.

This isn’t a “performance” car/engine, so it’s tuned to be quiet instead of being tuned for the best performance. It’s usually the “econo” cars that benefit the most from simple mods like these.
